Peacefully Resting

When you've been suffering for 20 years.

When your wife hasn't lived a life for 20 years because she's been caring for you.

When you have been able to see the faces of all of your children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren one last time.

When you get one last night of peaceful rest in your own home.

When you're taking a nap and the calm passes through your body.

That's when you know you're ready to die.

My grandfather died this afternoon. He did it in the way that I hope I can someday...getting the one last chance to see the faces of the ones I love before I just fall asleep at home taking a nap and don't wake up.

It's good...really. This is the most peaceful sleep he's had in over twenty years. And it's the eternal kind.

Rest in peace, Grandpa.
