The Cleveland Report

I had to catch this one before and entire month passed without blogging. I'm a day short of that 'deadline'.

Current location: Cleveland, OH

Current company: The NEW one!

Current state of mind: Happy, wistful, hopeful, trying too damn hard

Rating: 7 (on a 10 point scale)

I'm on day 9 of this job, being in Cleveland and away from home, hubby, and dogs. It's been fun but draining. I've spent the last four years on autopilot, it seems. I had almost forgotten what it felt like to be challenged at work. I'm putting in 10+ hour days here because, quite frankly, the only other thing I have to do is sit on my arse in my hotel room. No great nightlife in Cleveland. I've actually been told to stay inside...hence, no run training for the triathlon.

This new company was actually a client of mine for 3 years so I'm pretty familiar with the business, the staff, and culture. But now I'm having to re-learn all over again how to sell to my clients (a new and larger investment to boot).

Conciously, I know that these challenges are GOOD for me. I'm learning new skills and developing a new framework for doing business. These are things I'll be able to take with me wherever I go. And, as far as being away from home, the summer arrangement back and forth between Milwaukee and Cleveland is temporary until we and the office get moved to South Florida in August. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel on that one.

The hard part is just having to learn how to cope with the stress. Again, it's a learning experience for practicing PATIENCE. Because my old company was pretty small, I had large influence on what happened and didn't really have to 'report' to anyone other than the owner. I'm quickly learning the meaning of 'corporate ladder' and have taken a kick down the totem pole.

The job is good, I am well, and things are working out. I like the company, I love my job, and Cleveland's not permanent (THANK GOD).

A proper send off will require proper planning. The Rowdy Reunion might need to stop drinking for an hour to get this plan off the ground.

Between traveling for work and getting ready to move, I don't know if I can take the reins on planning.

Like I mentioned before, when we sell our house, we'll have one last hurrah...all Rowdies (past, present, and wannabe's) are welcome. Date is still TBD.

FYI: I can't make the July 8th Rowdy thing in Chicago because I'm doing the Danskin Triathlon the next day. Ya'll could come cheer me on...
