The Florida Update
So, I just realized that we've been here 3 weeks already. WHA. It seems like a very long and very short time, all in the same breath. And then I realized that an update has been long overdue.
We 'weathered' Ernesto without much hassle or problem.
Broward County issued a mandatory evacuation for all mobile homes and trailers, so yesterday afternoon we packed in the trailer and packed bags for ourselves and the dogs for 72 hours (just in case). Fortunately, there's an RV storage lot just behind the campground without trees, powerlines or other problem objects. So we stored the trailer there and got a hotel room LITERALLY around the block. They allow dogs, so the babies were able to bunk up with us. Another young couple from the campground did the same and the four of us and our combined three dogs hunkered down there. By late evening, the weatherpeople were already reporting that Ernesto, in fact, was NOT going to become a hurricane. More than that, he wasn't even a really bad tropical storm. Just a lot of fuss and muss.
We found a restaurant that was open, enjoyed a nice evening getting to know our new friends, Stephanie and Jeremy (Nutmeg is their baby).
Today, we slept in a bit. I worked for a few hours. And then we came back to the campground to UN-DO all of that DO-ING we DID yesterday. It's a lot of work and hassle, but I really don't mind a bit. The reality is it could have been much worse and I'm glad we were able to go through the steps of how to prepare and what to do.
We're getting used to the heat and humidity. I'm actually getting colder MUCH easier now.
We've made a few friends.
We've found a couple of dog parks and open spaces where the dogs can run around, so they're not clausterphobic.
We're slowly finding our way around: the restaurants, Targets, etc.
Craig is working in construction and still doing hourly consulting for his previous employer. I'm super busy and LOVING my job...I just can't wait til I'm not traveling as much and I can stop going to Cleveland. That should only be about 2 months away though, so I guess it's all about being patient at this point.
We're settling in and things are looking better and better every day.
We'll get this Florida thing figured out eventually.
